Featuring an all-star cast of international ballet dancers, the production is set to the enchanting music of Maurice Ravel, an original work by Durham-based visual and video artist William Paul Thomas, Boston-based digital composer Aaron Brown, and Durham-based lighting designer James Clotfelter. Choreographer and Duke University Professor Iyun Harrison brings his company, Ballet Ashani, to Goucher in the Maryland premiere of “Giovanni’s Room” a contemporary ballet adaptation of James Baldwin's iconic novel. Students from Goucher’s dance program will also premiere an original work choreographed by Harrison at the start of the program. Bring your family and friends to enjoy an evening of spectacular dancing, while delving into Baldwin's captivating novel set in Paris during the 1950s. This intimate ballet explores the life of David who grapples with love, passion, and despair and he investigates his queer identity.
